Refinery29?s Fall Nail-Polish Guide is a great resource for seasonal colors. Per their guide, and my own ideas, here are a couple of polishes that will help the transition from summer to autumn and winter a little softer:
Earthy greens bring the feeling of spring foliage during the barren winter months. Those splurging on a bottle of polish should look to Butter London 3 Free Nail Polish in Wallis ($14, Amazon.com), a glam olive-gold color, while those looking for a cheap fix will enjoy the more wallet-friendly Rags to Riches by Rimmel London Lasting Finish Pro ($3.99, Ulta), a mossy metallic green with silver rather than gold undertones. If you don?t want shimmer, Deborah Lippmann also offers the deep green forest-in-a-bottle Billionaire ($16, Neiman Marcus).
Burgundy is the essential deep red for the colder months. For your burgundy polish fix, try Essie nail polish in Carry On, a delicious purplish-brown with wine undertones ($8, Beauty.com). The wittily-named Stop Whining is a shimmery maroon very close to the Essie hue, from the fall nail polish line of Allure 2009 Top Innovator Sonia Kashuk ($4.99, Target).
Blue is not just for summer! Carry this Summer 2011 trend into fall and winter with deeper hues of nail polish. The subtle and sophisticated Sephora by OPI Nail Colour in My Personal Serpent looks nearly black in the shade, but in the sun transforms, chameleon-like, into a dark blue cream with gray/black undertones ($9.50, Sephora). Or try Dior Vernis in Blue Denim, a cheerful blue cream with a purple base that adds a casual touch to your look ($22, Nordstrom). Dior Vernis Blue Tie Collection in Tuxedo is a shimmery deep blue that looks as satiny as a ball gown ($21, Bloomindales).
