Madrid, March 3
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho will have to make changes to his side when they take on Espanyol in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium Sunday.
Injuries to striker Karim Benzema and winger Angel de Maria are means they are still out of action. Benzema is still recovering from a groin injury, while De Maria will still be sidelined for a further three weeks with a hamstring problem.
Meanwhile Hemet Altintop has a muscle problem and left back Fabio Coentrao returned injured after playing for Portugal in midweek. Coentrao will also be out of action for three weeks, meaning that Marcelo will return to the side at left back, Xinhua reported.
Marcelo's return is not the only change in Real Madrid defence, given that Pepe is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season, Ricardo Coentrao or Rafael Varene will provide cover alongside Sergio Ramos.
Jose Callejon, who joined Madrid from Espanyol last summer, could also find himself in the team.
It has been a strange week for Real Madrid with questions once again raised about the future of Jose Mourinho as manager after news and photos of his very public visit to London in midweek began speculation that he was house-hunting ahead of a possible return to the Premier League at the end of the season.
