1st Annual ??EMBODIED WRITING? WRITERS? RETREAT
with Mandoline Whittlesey,? featuring Sarah E. Green
October 2nd to 8th, 2011
in Burgundy, France
??Censor the body and you censor breath and speech at the same time. Write yourself. Your body must be heard.???~H?l?ne Cixous
We sometimes forget that writing, reading and speaking are physical events. They emerge from?and engage with?all aspects of self, which include a living body.
A few hours a day will be devoted to exploring somatic practices (from the Greek ?soma?: of the living body).? These are tools to explore the textures, rhythms and ?minds? of our living body in subtle ways: explorations in anatomy/physiology, movement, sensation, and vocal expression, for example.? They can help to ground our words in our subjective experience, to access certain states which lend themselves to more fluid expression, to shed light on our habits, open new pathways, and ultimately expand our expressive range to include the diversity within us.
In the privileged intimacy of a small-group setting, there will be plenty of time to write and receive feedback in group situations as well as one to one sessions with Sarah and Mandoline.
The atmosphere is friendly and informal and the number of writers is kept to 10 to ensure you receive the individual attention you desire.
NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH MOVEMENT IS REQUIRED OR EXPECTED.
VENUE: the really big dream company????????? (www.thereallybigdreamcompany.com)
Lyon or Geneva airports and Macon Loche TGV station.
The gorgeous landscape of southern Burgundy provides the back drop to this workshop. The center provides a diversity of places in which to write: the barn studio, the more social atmosphere of the common areas, secluded areas in the gardens and hills around the centre? You?re bound to find insight, rest and encouragement in this inspiring setting.
The event takes place in a beautifully renovated barn and accommodation is on site with all meals taken at the workshop venue. Food is home grown, home made or locally sourced and we offer a local wine tasting on your first evening.
